Transesophageal Echocardiography (TEE) Q & A
What is TEE?
TEE is an advanced echocardiogram performed using a probe placed in the esophagus, which lies close to the heart.
This positioning allows clearer, more detailed images than a standard echocardiogram performed on the chest wall.
Why would I need a TEE?
Dr. Farah may recommend TEE to evaluate heart valve disease, detect blood clots, investigate stroke causes, or assess suspected infection of the heart valves.
What happens during TEE?
You will receive medication to help you relax. The ultrasound probe is gently guided into the esophagus to capture detailed images of your heart.
The procedure is monitored closely to ensure comfort and safety.
What happens after TEE?
You will be monitored briefly until sedation wears off. Dr. Farah reviews findings and explains the next steps in your care plan.
